    U8 Overview (Formerly U7)

    • MSRC’s U8 Program is designed to develop skiing fundamentals, confidence, curiosity, and a love for the sport. This includes a focus on parallel skiing, timing cues such as pole plant, and the ability to control the ski in varying environments.
    • Training plans are based on Alpine Canada’s long term athlete development plan (https://ltad.alpinecanada.org/).
      • Most U8 Athletes will start with the "gliding start" phase of the LTAD plan, progressing towards the “skier essentials” portion during their time in the U8 program.
    • Time on snow and quantity of runs are a major focus in this development stage. The program structure will reflect a focus on getting as much skiing in as possible, while incorporating training environments that will create fun challenges to promote skill development.
    • Competition events at the U8 age are structured for simplicity and fun in order to provide a means to introduce racing concepts and competition rules.
      • Athletes born in 2020 may not be eligible for all U8 events. (Technically they are U6 athletes and we do not have a formal U6 program; however, we wish to promote ski development at as early an age as possible and therefore accept 5 year old athletes in this program for training). Please contact us if you have any questions on this limitation.
    • Breaks are included in training times. We encourage athletes to attend as many sessions as possible. However, it is not mandatory for athletes to attend all days in the schedule.
    • Typical additional events available in the U8 program include:
      • Martock Race Weekend
      • Crabbe March Break Fun Camp

    U10 Overview

    • MSRC’s U10 Program is designed to further develop skiing fundamentals, confidence, curiosity, and a love for the sport. This includes a focus on parallel skiing, timing cues such as pole plant, and the ability to control the ski in varying environments.
    • Training plans are based on Alpine Canada’s long term athlete development plan (https://ltad.alpinecanada.org/).

    U12 Overview

    • MSRC’s U12 program is designed to build on the fundamentals skills developed in U10 through further exposure and integration to racing specific on-snow training and competition. Defined by the “learn to train” stage of the Alpine Canada long term athlete development plan (https://ltad.alpinecanada.org/), athletes will be further educated on the requirements of Slalom, Giant Slalom and Ski Cross. They will be instructed on how to use their respective gear, and how to best apply their fundamental skiing skills to the racecourse.
    • Training will maintain a focus on developing core skills and competencies within and outside a racecourse environment. Training courses will be designed to challenge and further develop form, balance, and timing. Competition events at the U12 age increase in frequency and formality while still maintaining a major focus on time spent skiing, as well as creating a fun and engaging environment.
    • Breaks are included in training times. We encourage athletes to attend as many sessions as possible. However, it is not mandatory for your athlete to attend all days in the schedule.
    • Typical additional events available in the U12 program include:
      • Mont Saint Anne and other Pre-Season Camps
      • Wentworth Slingshot Race
      • Martock Race Weekend

    • MSRC’s Senior Race Team (SRT) Program (formerly U14+) includes the U14, U16, U18 & U21 age groups. From a training and racing perspective, these groups will train together and follow the same circuit of Atlantic race offerings. From a coaching perspective groups will be divided to best cater to the needs and race goals of the various age and experience levels of the athletes.
    • U14 Athletes will enter the “Train to Train” phase of Alpine Canada’s long term athlete development plan (https://ltad.alpinecanada.org/). Training focus in this phase focuses on refinement of fundamental technical skills, while introducing the tactical aspect of ski-racing. Athletes will be challenged to actively make decisions about their approach to their skiing and the racecourse. Speed races will also be introduced at this age, with athletes having the option to train and race Super G events.
    • U16 Athletes will continue through on the later stages of the “Train to Train” phase progressing towards the “Train to Race” phase which focuses more on the refinement of technical elements. Coaches will work with athletes to explore and refine tactical approaches to find maximum speed while maintaining the ability to stay within the race course.
    • U18+ will be fully focused on “Train to Race” phase of the LTAD plan.
    • Breaks are included in training times. We encourage athletes to attend as many sessions as possible. However, it is not mandatory for your athlete to attend all days in the schedule.
