2025 Canoe Kayak Programs

U21 High Performance is for experienced paddlers who are interested in competition and reaching their full potential. Participants will be competing at the local and provincial levels, as well as National and perhaps International events. Athletes will be instructed according to Train to Perform standards of the Sport Canada’s Sport For Life pathway. This program has 8-10 sessions a week of training, focused on on-water and off-water workouts. Competitive preparation will focus on singles and crew boats and will encompass goal setting and specific race strategy.

- Summer Session: July and August
- Fall Session: September and October
- Winter Session: November to 1st of May
- Racing fees extra.
- At Coach's discretion, on-water paddling can begin before May 1 and end after October 31.

SNCC’s Youth Racing Sprint Canoe/Kayak programs U14 (under 14) and U16 (under 16) focuses on teaching basic skills in sprint canoe and sprint kayak for youth ages 10-16* in an encouraging and fun-focused environment. At the conclusion of the term, the paddler will be encouraged to continue an active lifestyle and have an appreciation of the beautiful Welland Recreational Waterway. The program content is the “Learn to Train” of Sport Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development pathway. This program provides an opportunity to be in single boats, as well as learn introductory principles of sport training and healthy approaches to sport.
Participants will have a chance to compete locally if interested (not required).
Requirements:
- Paddlers must be between 13- 16 years of age to participate in U16
- Paddlers must be between 10 -14 years of age to participate in U14

- Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 4:15 pm-5:45 pm

Recommended (not mandatory):
One week of Canoe Kids Summer Camp is recommended as prior experience.

SNCC’s Masters program is coached by experienced instructors in a safe and fun environment. Beginners will be taught the fundamentals of paddling in singles and crew boats. We promote fitness on and off the water. There is also an option to participate in several local, provincial, and national regattas during the summer, however this is not required.
Requirements:
- Must be 20 years old to be in the program
- Must be 25 years or older to compete at CANMAS (Canadian Masters Sprint Championships)

- Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30pm-8:00pm
- Saturdays 10:30am -noon

Para canoe/kayak is an adaptive paddling program that offers on and off water activities to both youth and adults with a physical disability (mobility impairment, amputation, Cerebral Palsy, CMT disease, etc). The goal of the program is to introduce the participant to the sports of sprint kayak and sprint canoe at a recreational level, teaching them in a fun and safe environment. If interested there is opportunity to compete at regional, provincial and national levels, please ask your instructor for more information.

This canoe/kayak program is for individuals aged 15 and up with intellectual impairments. The goal of WellAND Paddle is to introduce the participant to the sport of sprint canoe/kayak at a recreational level, teaching them in a fun and safe envirnoment. WellAND Paddle is part of a larger movement across Canada to grow the Special Olympics/PaddleAll programming so that our sport of sprint canoe/kayak is accessible to all athletes. If interested and comfortable, there is opportunity to compete at local, provincial and national levels. Please ask you instructor for more information.
- Wear comfortable clothing as you might get wet.
- Bring a towel, a dry change of clothes, and bottled water to drink.
- Support persons are welcome to cheer from the shore.
- SNCC will provide the boat, the paddle, and the personal flotation device/life jacket. Our instructors and volunteers will also provide fun and safe training!
