Alberta Boys Provincial Program Registration
The Alberta Provincial youth program provides performance development training opportunities and competition experience for Alberta Youth aged 18 and younger. Athletes will have the opportunity to participate in tryouts, weekly training, Power Training sessions, and regional and/or national competitions
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
1. Tryouts
Earn your spot. Showcase your skills, compete with the best athletes in Alberta, and take the first step toward representing your province. All athletes first try out for the Alberta Provincial Squads.
2. Provincial Squad Training
Train with purpose. Develop your game through structured performance development training and team preparation. Weekly practices for all athletes run through to late July.
3. Regional Competitions
Compete beyond Alberta. Test your skills against top competitors at regional events and gain valuable tournament experience. Depending on the number of participants, Alberta Squad members may have the opportunity to travel to a regional competition (BC Regionals late May/early June and/or India Club Tournament late June). Participation in Regional Competition is strongly recommended for your best chance to ensure a spot at Nationals.
4. Team Alberta - National Championships
Represent Alberta. Advance to national championships and compete against the best teams in Canada. From the Provincial Squads, further selections will be made for Team Alberta to compete at Nationals. Max 18 athletes /team
Team Alberta participation at Nationals will include:
- 1 U18 Girls team: Field Hockey Canada Junior Nationals Surrey (July 21-26)
- 1 U18 Boys team: FHBC National Competition Surrey (July 24-26)
- 2 U17 Boys teams: Field Hockey Canada Junior Nationals Calgary (Aug 4-9)
- 1-2* U16 Girls teams: Field Hockey Canada Junior Nationals Calgary (Aug 4-9)
* Note: Number of U16 girls teams will depend on the number of athletes trying out and skill level.

PRESEASON BOOT CAMPS
Kick off your Spring 2026 preseason with our boot camps—designed to help you hit the ground running. Join us for two Saturdays of high-quality training, with separate sessions for boys and girls, and the flexibility to attend what works best for you. Led by top Alberta coaches, these optional sessions are the perfect way to prepare for Team Alberta tryouts and to take your skills to the next level.
All athletes who are looking to try out for the Provincial teams are encouraged to participate

TRYOUTS
Tryout Weekends are the first step to join the provincial program. Check back here regularly - specific age group session times as we receive facility confirmations and number of athletes participating.

- FHA member in good standing
- Register in age group according to birth date
- Must participate in 100% of sessions, unless travelling with a FHA sanctioned team. Accommodations may be made for regional athletes.
- Injured athletes must have a doctor's note and must attend all tryout sessions, participating to the best of their ability, as outlined in the note from doctor

Note: Boys who do not meet the fitness thresholds will have the opportunity to complete a second evaluation during Week 1 of tryouts (time TBD).

POWER SESSIONS
Two special sessions have been arranged to prepare athletes for travel to tournaments: May Power Weekend, and July Power Week. Attendance is mandatory for all athletes wishing to travel to Regional Tournaments or participate in Nationals.

Program Participation Requirement
- 80% attendance. Accommodations may be made for regional athletes.
- Active participation in a Field Hockey Alberta partner program throughout the season such as CJFH, CLFHA, FHAC, CSHSAA leagues. This supports ongoing skill development, game exposure and fitness. Failure to actively participate may risk their place on the squad or teams.
Eligibility for Team Alberta & Nationals
- 100% attendance is recommended however, 80% attendance may be approved if FHA is notified by email at the beginning of the season prior to program selection announcement date (May 1, 2026).
- Attending all Power Training sessions for their age group is mandatory.
- Team placement may be at risk if attendance thresholds are not met.
- Accommodations may be made for regional athletes.
Note: All absences must be communicated to Field Hockey Alberta by email at the beginning of the season. Exceptions for unforeseen circumstances (e.g., illness or family emergencies) may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
REGIONAL COMPETITIONS

Costs are approximations and will be finalized once more information is received, including tournament fees, number of athletes, transportation costs, sponsorships, etc. Families requiring financial assistance or a deferred payment schedule should contact Field Hockey Alberta directly.
