Youth Spring/Fall Programs

Our spring and fall youth programs are designed for athletes between the ages of 9-14. This athlete development program is based on Canoe Kayak Canada’s (CKC) model for Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) and is geared toward building strength and endurance through fun on water and dryland training.  Instruction in the fundamentals of sprint canoe and kayak is provided for both beginners and experienced paddlers.  Participants with be provided with opportunities to train in individual boats (singles) and crew boats.

No previous experience is required but participants are required to be competent swimmers.   Participants must provide their own appropriately sized Personal Floatation Device (PFD) and will be required to wear it at all times when on the water, docks or near shorelines.  

 

After School Youth Paddling Program

Introducing After School Paddling Program - Spring Session. This program is designed for kids(ages 9 -14).  

Is your child interested in paddling and looking to try something new after school?   The After School Program is a fun and engaging after-school program designed for kids ages 9-14 who want to explore the exciting world of paddling.  Whether your child is beginner or has some paddling experience, this program offers a great mix of skill-building, fitness and fun

 The After School Program combines the fundamentals of sprint canoe and kayak with team-building activities, fitness training, and recreational paddling. Our experienced coaches will introduce your child to paddling through both individual and team boats, while also focusing on building their balance, coordination, and aerobic fitness. All this happens in a supportive and positive after-school environment.

Program Highlight

· Sprint Paddling Fundamentals:
Participants will learn the basic techniques of sprint canoe and kayak, including how to paddle efficiently, the proper stroke technique, and how to navigate both solo and tandem boats.

· Team & Individual Boats:
Whether in a solo kayak or a team canoe, your child will experience the dynamics of both individual performance and team collaboration.

· Balance & Coordination Drills:
Dry land activities and on-water exercises will improve their balance, agility, and strength—all crucial skills for paddling.

· Aerobic & Speed Training:
Kids will participate in fun, age-appropriate aerobic exercises and paddling drills to build stamina, speed, and power, both on and off the water.

· Group Games & Team Activities:
Daily group activities and fun games on and off the water help build teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.

· Recreational Paddling:
In addition to the sprint training, there will be plenty of time for relaxed paddling, where kids can enjoy the water, improve their skills, and just have fun.

· Positive Environment:
Our well-trained, enthusiastic coaches focus on fostering a positive, supportive atmosphere where each child can thrive, develop new skills, and make new friends.

Located at the picturesque Glen Rouge Campground in Scarborough, our paddlers will have access to the Rouge River and the trails of Rouge National Park, Canada’s largest urban park.

    Bantam Programs

    Bantam offers athletes aged 9-14 an opportunity to experience the thrill of paddling in a safe and fun environment. Children will be training in a competitive program.   This program is geared towards the kids who have participated in the Intro to Sprint or Bantam Program before. 

    Our experienced coaches will guide your child through an unforgettable journey of paddling, group games, forest adventures, fun regattas, and more. The program is designed to provide children of all experience levels with an opportunity to learn and develop fundamental paddling skills, while enjoying a positive, engaging, and safe atmosphere.

    Throughout the program, children will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities, including team and individual boat training, balance drills, aerobic and speed training.

    The program schedule includes morning warm-up with dry land activities such as jogging and dynamic stretching, group games, multiple on-water sessions with time in Crew boats & Singles

      • Time: Tuesday/Thursday morning: 6:00am - 7:45am, Sunday 8:45am - 12:15pm

      Important Notes:

      • Life Jackets:
        Participants must bring their own properly fitting life jacket (required for all water activities). Our staff will ensure each child’s safety throughout the program.
      • What to Wear:
        Comfortable athletic clothes, water shoes or sandals, sunscreen, and a hat. Bring a water bottle and a change of clothes for after paddling.
      • Weather Considerations:
        In case of inclement weather, the program will be cancelled and no refunds will be provided.
