Fort Canoe Kayak Club

Who?

Ages 8-14 years, all abilities, and must be comfortable in water (PFDs worn near and on water). 

*Siblings or those who have previous experience may email programs@fortcanoekayak.ca for an age exception (usually 7+).

What? 

Campers are introduced to water safety and kayaking skills, including basic paddling skills, balance, and boat control using a variety of boats. Kids spend time playing a variety of on and off water games. Each week of camp ends with a fun race day featuring a mini competitive regatta on the last day of camp around 11am.

Campers have a great time challenging their own abilities while developing coordination, balance, boat control, body awareness and even team-work skills. Goals include building self confidence, aerobic capacity, agility, and flexibility and having fun!

Choose: Full day (9am-4pm) or Half Day (9am-12pm)

Participants who wish to build their skills further can participate in summer camps and/or may have the opportunity to join our year-round sprint program.

 

Where? 

Depending on weather and river conditions, the location of the program may vary between:

• Paddlesport Dock at Bedford Channel in Fort Langley, Langley Township, BC (map)
• Salmon River Dock at Memorial Grove in Fort Langley, Langley Township, BC (map)

 

What to wear and bring?

• We provide a location where your belongings can be locked up while you're on the water
• Comfortable clothing suitable for paddling. Kids will get wet, so clothing that is easy to change out of and/or dries quickly is best
• Change of Clothes

• Water
• Snacks
• Lunch
• Bug Repellant
• Sunscreen
• Sunglasses
• Life jackets (PFDs) are supplied but feel free to bring your own.

 

Health and Safety

Health and safety are our top priority, so all programs are run following provincial guidelines and using Canoe Kayak BC and Canoe Kayak Canada policies. Our coaches are all CanoeKids trained and screened. Please review our safety information at Fort Canoe and Kayak Health and Safety Forms before you attend.

Participants will be sent an informational package including location, what to bring, and an outline of the week prior to the first day of camp. (Usually 1 week before camp starts)
