Dragon Boat Program - 3 month (June, July & August)

Cheema invites both new and experienced adult (19+) paddling enthusiast to experience dragonboating. Enjoy the great outdoors on beautiful Lake Thomas in a fun and friendly atmosphere. The 40-foot-long, dragonboat can accommodate 20 paddlers sitting two to a bench, with a steersperson in the back directing/coaching the session.
Dragonboating from its sitting position makes it easier to balance and execute a basic paddling stroke. Beginners learn the stroke in a few sessions and acquire paddling-specific fitness within a couple of weeks. The program provides for a great social environment, before and after practice!
Session Content:
- Warm-up
- Safety
- Getting in and out of the boat
- Basic Paddling technique
- Equipment
- Refining technique
- Paddling together as a team
- Improving fitness level/cross training
Equipment
All necessary equipment - boat and paddles - are provided. You are welcome to bring along a thin cushion to place on the bench to sit on. A personal floatation device is mandatory.
Schedule
Monday and Wednesday 6:30-7:30pm; Saturdays, 9:30-10:30am.
Cheema Aquatic Club, 135 Champions Way, Waverley, NS B2R 0B3.
Practices will take place rain or shine (unless there is lightning).
Program season: June 2nd to August 30th (with the possibility of extending into September).
Fees $150.00 plus $50 capital fund fee
Drop in - $10.00 per session.
Note: You must be able to swim.
Extras: We have options for those who want to do more. Cheema is partnering with the Narrows9 Dragonboat Club, who are offering:
- Narrows9 DragonBoat Festival June 21
- Cheema will enter a crew or help individuals combine with others to create a crew.
