Pickering Rouge Canoe Club
Youth Spring/Fall Programs
Our spring and fall youth programs are designed for athletes between the ages of 9-14. This athlete development program is based on Canoe Kayak Canada’s (CKC) model for Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) and is geared toward building strength and endurance through fun on water and dryland training. Instruction in the fundamentals of sprint canoe and kayak is provided for both beginners and experienced paddlers. Participants with be provided with opportunities to train in individual boats (singles) and crew boats.
No previous experience is required but participants are required to be competent swimmers. Participants must provide their own appropriately sized Personal Floatation Device (PFD) and will be required to wear it at all times when on the water, docks or near shorelines.
Youth programs are for those aged 9-14 who wish to further develop paddling skills. The program will focus on boat skills, paddling technique, work capacity and aerobic endurance. Participants will be doing a combination of paddling, running and body weights.
