Special Olympics Programs

Get ready, Special Olympians!  We have THREE registration options for you!  GOLDGREEN and RED

PCKC is deeply committed to inclusive paddling, and our Special Olympics Program is the heart of our Club.  We keep it fun, we keep it challenging, and we encourage participation in regattas, for anyone who is interested.

Paddlers in any of our programs are welcome to compete once they are able to hold their position on a start line and paddle within a race lane.  Most Special Olympics races are 200m, but we do have some long distance opportunities for our hard-core athletes.

Registration for each program is password protected.  Please contact Angela Shearer for your password.

3 training groups:

Green: This program is designed for new paddlers, or paddlers who just want some relaxed fun out on the water.  We’ll play games and do some exploring in boats that are appropriate for each paddler’s skills.  As paddlers progress, they will be offered more challenging boats to keep things interesting.

Gold:  This program is ideal for returning paddlers (or those with prior paddling experience) who are ready for a more structured practice.  We’ll do some fun games and challenges to help you improve your skill and stamina over the course of the summer. Want to try a race?  Go for it!! Special Olympics/PaddleAll races are a fun way to challenge yourself and meet athletes from across Ontario, and even Canada!!

Red:  This program is for paddlers with a need for speed, and who know they want to compete.  Twice-a-week practices are designed to build speed, stamina and endurance, with plenty of shenanigans thrown in.  We will focus on single and crew boats in order to maximize racing opportunities.
